Vanesa Barnes

Vanesa Corrine Barnes, age 59, died Friday, October 30, 2020 surrounded by loved ones at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys.

Vanesa was born on July 10, 1961 in Grinnell, Iowa to Jerry and Wanda (Dvorak) Barnes. She graduated from Central Dewitt High School in Dewitt, Iowa in 1979. She was a Respiratory Therapist at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. She built meaningful relationships with her co-workers and the people she cared for at her job.

Vanesa enjoyed making trips to visit her best friend in Las Vegas. They enjoyed shopping, going to shows and spending time together. She loved her furry companions, Precious and Sugar. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family. She liked watching movies, especially Harry Potter movies with her son.

Vanesa is survived by her son, Perry Barnes; her dad, Jerry Barnes; brother, Bradley (Lisa) Barnes; niece, Abigail Barnes; nephew, Austin Barnes; her best friends, Daine Crowley and Kathy Willey; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Vanesa is preceded in death by her mom, Wanda Barnes.

  1. My heart breaks for Vanesa’s family. I know what a strong person she was and how much she will be missed. My love goes out to Perry. She loved you so much. I always enjoyed her enthusiasm and care for others. What a fight she fought!! Thank you to Lisa for all she did for everyone.

  3. This just breaks my heart. Vanessa was such a good good person. I worked with her for many years at Mercy and saw how she loved & cared for her patients. She had so much love for her son & family. She talked about them frequently. This is such a terrible loss. I’m so sorry

  4. I will forever remember all our night maneuvers. All the nights watching scary movies. You with your face in a pillow until it was a devil movie then I’d bury my face. Lmao! We always had a blast. I am who I am because of you sweetly. To Perry if you ever need anything sweet I’m here love you.

    I remember fun summer vacations riding bikes and playing in Dewitt with Vanessa when we were kids.

    I wish I would have lived closer back then so we could have seen each other more often.

I often thought of you Vanesa I wondered how you were doing I still laugh about time we went to your cabin and got so sunburn we could hardly stand it that was back in day when you had bar in Delmar.God take care of you my long lost Friend wish we could have seen one another but I guess life gets in the way
