Steven Uttecht

 

Steven Lyle Uttecht, 66, died Monday, April 22, 2024 peacefully at his home.

Steve was born on January 17, 1958 to Harold and Valeria (Neuheisel) Uttecht in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, SD and graduated from Denver Technical College in Denver, CO. He worked at Industrial Air Systems in Owatonna, MN and in St. Paul, MN, Gauthier Industries in Rochester, and various jobs at Menards and Hardware Stores in Rochester. He married Lori Klages in Owatonna, MN and they later divorced. They had 3 sons: Derek, Darin and Dustin. Steve married LeFay (Martinson) Hodnefield on December 17, 1996 in Rochester.

Steve enjoyed bowling, auto mechanics, taking care of his lawn and garden, camping, and fishing. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Steve is survived by his wife, LeFay Uttecht; sons, Derek Uttecht of Rochester, Darin Uttecht of Albert Lea, Dustin Uttecht of Red Wing; stepchildren, Scott Hodnefield of Inver Grove Heights, Karla Hodnefield of Golden Valley; sister, Kimberly (Patrick) Hunt of St. Peters, MO; brothers, Jeff (Lorinda) Uttecht of Richmond, WA and Dennis Uttecht of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren, Jordan Hoffmann, Alexa Hoffmann, Lilia Uttecht, Devin Uttecht, Avery Uttecht, Gabriel Uttecht; goddaughter, Christina (Justin) Mayo; several nieces and nephews; and several in-laws in his wife’s family.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Harold Uttecht; and mother, Valeria (Uttecht) Schoenfelder.

A memorial service will be at 2:30pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 2815 57th Street NW, Rochester with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Krista Strum is officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Memorial Gardens at Hosanna Lutheran Church.

May God wrap his loving arms around Steve, welcome him home with open arms; and may all who miss him feel God’s tender love.
