1950-2025

Nancy Jane Mallan (74) of Rochester died peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by loved ones.

A celebration of life gathering, which will include the visitation and luncheon, will be held from 10 am to noon on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Hope Summit Church at 1315 6th Ave SE in Rochester, Minnesota. There will be a time of sharing memories from 11:30 am to noon, after which the family will depart for a graveside service at Marion Cemetery.

Nancy Jane, daughter of Erwin and Marna (McCaleb) Greenwaldt, was born on July 10, 1950, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She was baptized in the Christian faith. Nancy graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester in 1968. Following graduation, she worked at St Mary’s Hospital and the State Hospital until she opened her in-home daycare, providing extraordinary care and touching the hearts of many children and their families over the years. In 1970, Nancy married the love of her life, Mike Mallan, at Meadow Park Church of Christ church in Rochester and was blessed with three wonderful sons, Todd, Andy, and Chris. During retirement, Nancy and Mike enjoyed summer camping trips and heading south in the winter for a few weeks each year. After nearly 55 years of marriage, the two of them loved each other deeply and served as a source of inspiration to those close to them. Nancy lived a life rich with love, cherishing every moment she spent with her family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Mike Mallan of Rochester; children, Todd (Deanne) Mallan of Rochester, Minnesota, Andy (Colleen) Mallan of Oronoco, Minnesota, and Chris (Lindsey) Mallan of Rochester, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Brayden, Keegan, and Brynlee Mallan, Levi and Reed Mallan, Cayden Mallan, Bailey (BreAnn), Sam and Nick Breitenbach; siblings Jerry (Char) Greenwaldt of Rochester, Minnesota, Terry (Pam) Greenwaldt of Rochester, Minnesota, Sharon (Mike) Howells of Lakeville, Minnesota, Ann (Glenn) Winch of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Scott Greenwaldt of Rochester, Minnesota, and special family friend Molly Sheridan; brother-in-law, Wayne (Jean) Mallan of Rochester, Minnesota, and two sisters-in-law, Patti (Dave) Smith of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Paulita Greenwaldt of Fayette, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lyle and Vera Mallan, and her brother, Steve W. Greenwaldt.

  3. May flights of angels welcome her into her eternal glory. I will never forget Nancy’s brilliant smile and raucous laughter. Her joy filled everyone around her. We had so much fun in our jr. and sr. high youth groups at Eastside Church of Christ. May she rest in peace and rise in love.
