Marilyn VanCura

 

Marilyn Marie VanCura, 82 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Cascade Creek Memory Care, Rochester, Minnesota.

Marilyn was born April 4, 1940 to her parents Joseph and Julia Pechan in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. After high school, Marilyn and Gene were married on August 9, 1958 and started life together in Pipestone, Minnesota. They were married for 63 years.

Marilyn had a great many talents and skills. She was a seamstress and could sew anything and tailor clothing for anyone. In earlier years, she knitted and embroidered many things. As an avid reader, Marilyn loved mystery novels, biblical history, and spiritual books. For many years, Marilyn was involved in bible studies. Marilyn loved cooking and entertaining, especially for holidays when extended families gathered at her home. When her children were in grade school, Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper for a real estate company in Pipestone, and then later as a bookkeeper for the Wabasha Nursing Home in Wabasha, Minnesota. Marilyn was always hospitable, loving, kind, caring, and compassionate. She always thought of and cared for others before herself.

Marilyn’s faith was center in her life. She was a dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church, Wabasha, Minnesota, having served on several committees, as usher, as money counter, and in the kitchen. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She will be greatly missed by her children: daughters Dawn Daehn (husband Jeff and daughter Marta) of Rochester, MN, and Dorothy Alvarez (husband John and son John Thomas) of Ignacio, CO, and son Tony (wife Karen and daughters Alexis and Melissa) of Greensboro, NC. She will also be missed by her sisters Carolyn Meiners of Mineota, MN and Garnita Cross (husband Thomas), St. Francis, MN.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Eugene (Gene) and sisters Eldora Schroeder (husband Dave) and Shirley Savage.

A private ceremony for the family will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery, St. Paul, MN.
