Gary Wendland

Gary Vernon Wendland, age 75, died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at St. Crispin Living Community in Red Wing after a 2-year battle with liver cancer.

Gary was born August 14, 1945 in Rochester, MN to Vernon and Audrey (Schmidt) Wendland. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester where he was active in hockey and golf. Following graduating from high school he attended the University of Minnesota. He married Rose Sanderson in Stewartville on December 9, 1976. He had a career in Real Estate in Rochester.

Gary enjoyed camping and boating on the Mississippi River with his family. He enjoyed duck hunting especially with his brother, Craig Wendland, and hosting a youth duck hunt. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife, Rose; 2 daughters, Angela Wendland of Spirit Lake, IA, Melissa (Andy) Link of Coon Rapids, MN; 2 grandchildren, Landyn and Wyatt Link; sister, Lorry Wendland of Frontenac, MN; and brother, Craig (Judy) Wendland of Rochester, MN.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a private family service.

  2. Rose, Angela, Melissa, Craig & Lorry. I met Gary in 1971 working at Am Can co & we became fast friends. From him & I going out to bars while Rose worked , him getting me out goose hunting, access to excellent pheasant hunting, having Roxcy’s litter of pups, then our families growing & all the camping fun times on the islands & cabins on both sides of the river plus so many other experiences with you guys, too many to count but Gary will surely be missed by me & my family.
