Corey Joe Hummel, 39, of Rochester, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday July 12th, 2026 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester MN.
He was born on December 29th,1986, in Mason City, IA to Terry and Amber Hummel. Corey grew up in Le Roy, MN and graduated from LeRoy-Ostrander High School. He went on to work in commercial construction while living in Waterloo, IA. He later moved back to the southern MN area and continued to expand his skill set in the construction field. He enjoyed working outdoors and also did landscaping work. He had an eye for this type of designing and enhanced the natural beauty of several residential and downtown spaces in the area. Most recently he worked in customer service for Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe in Rochester, MN. He enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know the longtime customers. Corey learned about all the products sold there and enjoyed providing samples of his favorites to family and friends.
Corey was known for his warm, beautiful smile, easygoing nature, and genuine heart. He loved collecting trivia and fun facts to share with family and friends. He enjoyed photography, drawing, and watching sports, including football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling—whether college or professional. He was an unwavering Vikings and Twins fan. Corey also enjoyed pull tabs and a good conversation at the VFW. He enjoyed being in nature, and spending time with family.
Corey is survived by his parents Terry Hummel of Riceville, IA; Amber Hummel of Le Roy, MN; his two siblings Tyler Hummel and Trey Hummel, as well as three nephews, one niece, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Kathleen Hummel, Mike Brophy, Kaye Brophy, and his aunt Danielle Cowley.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7th, at the Le Roy Community Center in Le Roy MN. A private burial will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Lourdes, IA.
You will be missed dearly. You truly were an amazing person and even better friend. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Fly high Corey.

I am so sorry to hear of Corey’s passing. I have so many memories of friendship with Corey throughout our school years. Corey was always genuine, honest, and reliable. I’ll do my best to keep his memory alive.

Corey was a wonderful soul. I always enjoyed chatting with him at the VFW. I’m glad that I had the chance to get to know him. We always talked about getting out of town for a weekend if we found something fun going on. Unfortunately, we never got around to it. He will be missed at the VFW.
I hope to see him again someday.
