Toan Bui, 73, passed away on December 27, 2025, peacefully in his home.
Toan was born June 26th, 1952, in Hai Duong, Vietnam to Thi Nhan Nguyen and Duy Da Bui. The eldest of eight. He was born in North Vietnam and his family moved to South Vietnam to escape communism. He served in the South Vietnamese Military from 1973 until the end of the war in 1975. He started a family in 1986 and immigrated to the United States in 1991 to find a better life. He first found work as a custodian for Bethel Lutheran Church and later in manufacturing for several companies. Later, he worked at McNeilus for over a decade before retiring from there in 2018.
Toan found greatest joy in spending time with his family and numerous friends in the Rochester area. He enjoyed fishing, and watching soccer and football. He enjoyed traveling to numerous cities around the U.S. while visiting extended family. He found purpose by assisting many fellow Vietnamese immigrants with social support for settling into a new country. He was generous to his family in his home country by sending financial support for many years.
Toan is survived by his Son Tien, Sister Huyen Thi, Brothers Hien Si, Duy Hoang, and Gia Bao, and several nieces and nephews.
Toan is preceded in death by both of his parents and three brothers. A visitation will be on Monday, January 5th at 6:00pm. A memorial will be held at a later date.
