Suzanne Margaret Swanson, 83, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, kindness, and memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Born to Clemens and Margaret Goergen, Suzanne was raised on a farm in Adams, Minnesota, alongside her four siblings. The values she learned growing up—hard work, compassion, resilience, and appreciation for the simple beauty of life—remained with her throughout her life.
Suzanne dedicated many years of her career to the Mayo Clinic, where she took great pride in her work until her retirement. She believed in doing every job well and carried an extraordinary work ethic into everything she did.
More than anything, Suzanne loved life. She found joy in nature, music, dancing, and the quiet routine of her daily walks, which she continued faithfully nearly until the end of her life. She never lost her appreciation for the outdoors or the beauty found in everyday moments.
She had a heart that naturally cared for others. Suzanne was a caregiver through and through, always ready to help, comfort, or encourage someone in need. She had a special love for children and could never pass one without offering a warm smile. Her kindness came effortlessly and left a lasting impression on countless people.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Eric Swanson and his wife, Pam Swanson; Kevin Swanson; and Melissa Davis and her husband, Plato Davis. She is also survived by her longtime partner, Melvin Naylor; her sister, Joanne Hillier; her brother, Joseph Goergen; and her cherished grandchildren, Morgan Swanson, Mackenzie Swanson, Jayanna Davis, and Malia Davis. Nothing brought Suzanne more pride than being a grandmother. She adored each of her grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to love and encourage them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clemens and Margaret Goergen; her former husband, Roger Swanson; her sisters, Dianne Swanson and Julie Schwade; her nephew, Scott Swanson; and her beloved dog, Bentley.
Suzanne will be remembered for her gentle spirit, infectious smile, unwavering strength, and generous heart. She taught those around her that a life is measured not only by accomplishments, but by kindness freely given, love generously shared, and the countless small moments that make others feel seen and cared for.
After a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family, Suzanne is finally at peace. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her love will remain a guiding presence in the lives of all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy is one of compassion, joy, resilience, and unconditional love—a legacy that will never be forgotten.
