Sheryll Laugen

 

Sheryll D. (Kingery) Laugen, 79, died on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-St Marys Campus after two battles with two cancers.

Sheryll was born on October 23, 1943 to Robert D. and Phyliss J. (Tubbs) Kingery in Marion, IN. She graduated from Marion, IN High School in 1961. Sheryll married John R. Laugen in Kansas City, MO in 1964 and later they divorced. She lived in Kansas City, MO and Sheboygan, WI before moving to Rochester in 1971. John and Sheryll moved to Rochester to be managers of the Western Motel. She worked at Marigold, ABC, and a halfway house through Mayo Clinic systems. Her favorite part of working at the halfway house was shopping weekly at HyVee Barlow filling 2-3 carts a time. She called it “smiles, isles and seeing my friends.”

Sheryll loved doing leather work and has a piece hanging at Newts North.  She enjoyed crafts, puzzles, games, 45 games with friends daily, being a grandma, and fixing food for parties. She had a gift for gab, wild wit and a listening heart. She also had the best poker face when playing cards. She volunteered with AIDS, and helped with many fund raisers. She could proudly say she was with AA 39 years and enjoyed attending the yearly retreat with her friends.

Sheryll is survived by her children, LeAnne Laugen and her children, Onnalee M. Reyez and Cameron J. Reyez of Rochester, MN, and John J. Laugen and fiancee’ Cheryl Otto of Zumbrota, MN; granddaughter, Jamie (Henry) Grenz and their 3 sons Blake, Gunner, and Duke of Eyota, MN; 3 bonus grandbabies, Mariah, Kaiden, and Crystal Reyez of California; and siblings, Shirley (Darrel) of IN, Franklin of NJ, Robert (Chuck) of IA, and Lonnie Joe (Linda) of MO.

Sheryll is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Jerry and Steven; John R. Laugen; and 1 infant son, Christopher.
