Mary Iona (Miner) Mortensen, 96, died Saturday, June 29, 2024 at her home.
Mary was born in Cerro Gordo County, IA on May 10, 1928 to Ray and Mary Miner. She was the fourth of ten children: Marvin, Meda, Morris, Mary, Maynard, Merryelle, Morna, Merrit (died at birth), Merredith and Milda. The family made a couple short stops in Iowa and Minnesota before settling on a farm east of Sargent, MN.
Mary spent the first three years of school in Clear Lake, then 4th grade in London, MN before the family moved to Sargent where Mary finished the 8th grade. She then transferred to Austin to finish high school and graduate from Austin High in 1947.
Mary married Don Olson in 1950. They had four children: Lynne, Don, Mary, and Richard. They later divorced. She married Bob Mortensen in 1995. They lived in Arkansas until Bob’s death, and Mary moved back to Minnesota.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mary Miner; husband, Bob Mortensen; 4 brothers, Marvin Miner, Morris Miner, Maynard Miner, and Merrit Miner; 3 sister, Meda McCloud, Merryelle Whiteaker, and Morna Sathre; 2 sons-in-law, Gene Heuton and Tom Scripture. She is survived by 1 sister, Milda Weness; 1 brother, Merridith-Skeeter Miner; 4 children; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
