Kenneth “Skip” Herrig

 

Kenneth John Herrig, known to most as “Skip”, 69, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 surrounded by family at St. Mary’s Hospital.  He was born February 8, 1955 to Philip and Marian (Dorschner) Herrig in Lakefield, MN.

Skip grew up in Jackson, MN where he graduated high school in 1973. He attended Concordia College for a short time and then entered the Navy, serving three years. After returning home, Skip took a job at the American Legion in Jackson, MN. There, he met his future wife and life partner, Betty Schlager, in 1977. They started a family and were married in 1984.

 In 2015, after a lifelong career as a Restaurant Manager, Skip retired from Bakers Square in Rochester, MN where he had worked since 1994.

Skip is survived by his wife, Betty; his three sons Joshua Schlager (Megan) of Stewartville, MN, Heath Herrig (Marie) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Stephen Herrig (AnnMarie) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Isaac Schlager, Audrey Schlager, Amelia Schlager, Oliver Schlager, Evander Schlager, Freyja Herrig and Hazel Herrig; two sisters Kristi Herrig of Jackson, MN and Becky Gazaway (Wayne) of Corpus Christi, TX; and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Randy, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

 Skip was very proud of his sons, daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren, often saying to his wife “we did raise some good boys”.

A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date.
