Edwin Lyman Doty, age 97, of Stewartville, MN, died peacefully with family by his side on June 4 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
“Ed” was born to Edwin S. and Nellie Doty in September 1927 in Minneapolis. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1945. Ed was a veteran, serving two terms in the U.S. Army. At the U of M, Ed earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agronomy and also studied for an MBA. He worked for Northrup King Seed Company, then was an accountant year-round in administration for the Minnesota State Fair for a decade.
Ed and Joan met in 1955 and were married in St. Paul, MN in March 1960. They raised 4 children starting their family in the Twin Cities. In the early 70’s Ed took over farming for his father and the family moved to Stewartville in 1973. After retiring from farming, Ed continued working various jobs including delivering seed for Mallard Seed Company, and shuttling rental cars between airports in the upper Midwest.
Ed was a 50 year member of the Stewartville Lions club. He enjoyed weekly coffee and conversation with his buddies for many years. Ed “Papa” most of all enjoyed spending time with family and cherished his 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His stories, sharp mind, and ever-present sense of humor persisted until his last moments. He was very much loved and will be forever missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; children, Allen (Kathryn) Doty, Jean (Daniel) Krings, Richard (Anita) Doty, and Susan (James) Lofgren; grandchildren, Cale (Vanessa) Doty, Evan Doty, Matthew Krings, Emma Krings, Alexander Doty, Benjamin Doty, Christine Lofgren, and Amy Lofgren; great-grandchildren, Noah Doty and Stella Doty; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George. Inurnment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Eyota in a private family service.
A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 12:00 to 3:00 at Stewartville Sportsmans Club, 1735 County 6 Road SW in Stewartville, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Edwin.
