Edward Lester Strickland, 85, of Rochester, MN, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Ed was born on October 1, 1934, in New York, to Clyde and Jeanette Strickland. On October 27, 1962, he married Rita Louise Peterson. Together they had three children. Ed lived in a few states out east prior to settling in Rochester MN. Ed spent all of his career working as an engineer, retiring from IBM Rochester in 1992.
Ed was very interested in history, especially World War II history. He was a founding member of the Mechanical History Round Table as well as being a member of the Olmsted County Historical Society. He loved spending time with his family, antiquing, reading and restoring his 1913 Farmall tractor and 1940 Dodge fire truck.
Survivors include his three children, Michelle G. (Tom) Rust of Ash Grove, Missouri; Carol A. (Rick) Jech of Rochester; and Charles E. (Donna) Strickland Monticello, MN. One sibling – Judy (Wally) Cashwell of Tampa, FL. He had six grandchildren: Megan of Lakeville, MN; Samuel and Daniel of Rochester; and Alysha, Jaden and Shalyn of Monticello. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren – Madison, Ella and Maxwell of Lakeville. He is also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Bette.
Following his wishes the service will be private.
