Debra J. (Rose) Akovenko, 70, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at the Mayo Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place and there will not be a burial service.
Debbie was born on March 5, 1955, in Bismarck. Debbie graduated from Bismarck High School in 1973 and went on to attend Bismarck Junior College. In June of 1976, she married Leland Akovenko, and together they raised three children: Kelly, Amy, and Chad. Debbie and Leland were the proud owners of Our Place Tavern, which they operated for seven years.
Debbie dedicated 23 years of her career to Credit Collections Bureau before retiring in 2024. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, known for her generous spirit and deep love for her family.
She found joy in traveling, watching golf and football, and spending summers at her cherished cabin on Brush Lake. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with her friends, children, and grandchildren, especially while cheering them on at their sporting events. Debbie’s warmth, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Children: Kelly (Dave) Nagel; Amy (Dan) Kraemer; Chad (Misty) Akovenko.
Grand Children: Madison (Dylan) Nyhusmoen, Parker Nagel, Justin (Melissa) Nagel, Casey Nagel, Tanner Nagel; Jaden Welk, Marshall Kraemer, Macie Welk, Thea Kraemer; Cage Akovenko, Case Akovenko and Mazey Akovenko.
Great Grandchildren: Braden Nagel, Theodore Nagel, Bryker Nyhusmoen, Remington Nyhusmoen, Sybil Nyhusmoen.
Siblings: Sandee (Brad) Oswald, Roberta Froehlich and Mitch Rose
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ed and Marilyn Rose and brother Michael Rose.
A celebration of life will be held on June 14, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kelly’s home located at 517 Boston Circle, Bismarck, North Dakota. Show your support for her favorite teams by wearing your Bison and Vikings gear.
