David C. “Herb” Herberg, born on September 7, 1957, age 67 of South Minneapolis, met angels abound on October 8, 2024, reuniting with his mother Joann, father James, and brother Jeffrey Herberg.
He is survived by his only child and daughter Katie (Berens), his treasured son-in-law Mike, and his cherished soulmate and love of a lifetime, Jody Woods. Jody melted his heart and provided 30 years of happiness, love and companionship. His caring soul illuminates through their shared family including Landon Woods, Taylor (Derrick) Benz, and amazing granddaughters Georgia and Bowie Benz, who brought endless joy to his life.
He was a walking billboard of inspiration and success. He was forever grateful for the care received from his talented team at the Rochester Mayo Clinic. His family extends their sincere appreciation to Julie, Tim, Anna, and Jeanie for their dedication through his journey.
He was a proud member of Southside Associates and a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He enjoyed walking lake Nokomis with Ruby and Stunner, playing golf, hockey, and fishing with his dear friends. He loved traveling, attending sporting events, dancing, and hearing live music. A passion for Cadillacs, his vehicles were the most polished in any parking lot.
A beacon of hope, his confidence was contagious. Everyone noticed when ‘Herb’ and his smile entered the room. His capacity for hosting good times had no limits. An entertainer with an unmatched story-telling ability, to know him was to love him.
David was a dedicated father and honorable son. A loyal, humble, and honest man, with the heart of a lion and a handshake of gold. He was a legend. Irreplaceable. He will be forever remembered and celebrated for his generosity and kindness.
Resiliency kept him alive until his passing on his beloved daughter Katie’s birthday. His legacy will be carried on through us all.
A print version was included in yesterday’s Star Tribune newspaper. Thank you for all your support. There are no plans for a formal celebration of life open to the public. His intentions were for a private celebration with close friends and family.
Memories and condolences of David may be shared below.
