David “Dave” Hameister, age 71, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, under the compassionate care of the palliative care team at Rochester Methodist Hospital after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease and Merkel Cell Carcinoma.
Dave Hameister was born July 26th, 1952, in Rochester, MN to Carl and Edna (Schneckloth) Hameister. He grew up in Rochester, MN and graduated from Rochester Mayo High School. He stayed in Rochester after high school and worked many different jobs from Wonder Bread to Yellow Cab where he spent most of his career as a cab driver. He married his love Carol (Biers) Hameister April 27th, 1974, and they had been inseparable since. April of 2024, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dave is survived by his wife, Carol; sons Jason Hameister, Jesse Hameister, and Joshua Hameister. He is also survived by brother Bruce Hameister, sister Linda Hameister, and sister Julie (Jason) Hagedorn along with many nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Edna (Schneckloth) Hameister, brothers Doug (Sandy) Hameister, Denny Hameister, Curtis (Virginia) Hameister, and Dewayne (Sharon) Schneckloth.
Dave was a man of few words but his love for his wife and kids was undeniable. He was an avid pool player in the Rochester pool scene for many years. He was an avid fan of Minnesota sports, especially the Twins and the Vikings. He also enjoyed gambling and playing cards.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Mayo Clinic and Madonna Towers Rehab for the amazing care he received over the last month and the help and support that you gave to our family during this tough time.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday February 2nd, 2024, at Rochester Cremation Services from 11am-2pm. Burial arrangements are still in the planning stages.
