Darryl Duane Haack, aged 83, of Austin, MN, passed away on June 22, 2023, after a long battle with dementia. Darryl was born on February 3, 1940, to Louis Frederick Haack and Edna Louise Haack (née Wyborny) in Austin, MN. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. He held many jobs working for the railroad, bartending, ambulance driver, and cab driver. He worked many years at Echo Lanes and then worked night audit at Holiday Inn in Austin, MN until his retirement. He was known at his workplaces for his sense of humor and his funny stories. He met the love of his life Judith Ann Nicholson in 1965 and they married on June 5, 1966. They had two children, a girl Elizabeth Louise Haack and a boy Darryl Duane Haack Jr. who passed shortly after birth.
He loved fishing, bowling (he belonged to the 700 club), playing guitar, and enjoyed playing arcade games especially Pac Man. He had a model HO scale train set and loved collecting all things railroad related. Every year as long as his health allowed, he went up north with his friends and spent a week fishing. He loved being in the woods by the lakes in northern Minnesota. He loved eagles and his pets. He had a dog named Velvet and was a proud grandpa to his daughters’ kitties.
Darryl was predeceased by his son, parents, and sibling Danny Haack. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth, his sister Darlene Turner (née Haack), his nephew Tom Keyser, and many loving family members and friends.
