Jason Hayes, 42, died peacefully at home on September 14th, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Sarah, his son whom he loved beyond words, Ian, and beloved pets, Jewel, Suzy, Penny, Tommy, Lilly, and Pearl. Also, left behind are his mother, Fran Ellsworth, brothers Dustin Ellsworth and Aaron Ellsworth, parent in-laws, Wade Wessels and Sherrie and Gary Fletcher, several nieces nephews, an extended in-law family, and a large community who were honored to have been able to call Jason a friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hayes and step-father, Darrell Ellsworth.
Jason was born in New Jersey and grew up causing mischief and spreading joy in Delaware. In his early twenties, he moved to Washington and met Sarah. After moving back to Delaware and raising Ian, the family made the big move to Rochester in 2016.
He had a successful a career in the restaurant industry. He is remembered by all who worked with him as the “best manager” they have ever worked with.
Above all else, Jason loved his family with all his heart and cherished every second together. He especially loved road trips, nature, “shooting the shit” with friends, music, and drinking great beer. He was always sharing the things he loved with those he loved.
A celebration of life will take place Wednesday, September 22 at 2:00pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Rochester. As seating will be limited, the celebration will also be streamed online. In lieu of flowers and support of the family, memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice in recognition of the exceptional care received by Ryne and the care team.
Rochester Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences of Jason may be shared at rochestercremationservicesmn.com

You and Ian will continue to be in my thoughts. I realize it is not the same as having Jason here. But I know he will always be with you both. Reading all of these posts and comments from people just solidifies the love he had for you guys. We knew you were so mates back here in Washington. I am so sorry and sad and that this stupid cancer came to visit and took him away. I only hope that you were able to smile when you think about him and have tissues nearby when the tears flow. Sending you lots of love from Washington.

Jason you were the best guy anyone knew. Only a few hours older than me but I always looked up to you like an older brother. You lived a happy purpose driven life that we can all be inspired by. Thanks for being you cuz. I’ll never forget you and the experiences we had growing up as kids and the times we shared as adults. There will never be another Jason Michael Hayes.
