Catherine “Cass” Petersen peacefully joined her Mother, Father, Sister, Son, Daughter, Son in Law, and Granddaughter in heaven on June 11, 2020. Cass was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland but left her hometown for Minnesota in 1979. She immediately fell in love with Rochester and decided to replant her family roots here. Cass spent 25 years as a proud phone operator for Rochester Transportation Services, building hundreds of friendships throughout the city she loved so much. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan (SKOL!) and loved to spend her weekends watching the Masters. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her friends at The Salvation Army Caring Partners Program.
If asked what the secret to a long life was, Cass probably would have said it was a case of beer and a pack of cigarettes. She was the type of woman that struggled, succeeded, thrived, and survived all while she served up daily doses of sass. Her tenacity was woven into the DNA of those she left behind and every single person in her family is lucky to have a little bit of Cass in their soul. Her legacy of hard work and hustle will not be forgotten.
Cass is survived by her daughters Cindi Eggers (Frank Eggers) and Brooke Olson (Chad Olson). She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and too many friends to list. Cass’s final journey will be in Baltimore Maryland where she will reunite with her sister so they can spend eternity traveling on the ocean’s currents.
Cass’s family would like to thank Linda and Bob Holt and family for welcoming her into their world, embracing her and loving her. Additionally, St Croix Hospice, who helped make Cass’s final moments peaceful and dignified.
In place of flowers or memorials please celebrate Cass with a simple act of kindness and remember, “It is what it is”.
