February 14, 2021, we lost a great husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and dear friend. He passed away unexpectedly doing what he loved – his morning chores of feeding heifers on the farm.
Loren William Schmidt, born January 13, 1942 to Louis and Iona (Affeldt) Schmidt in Wykoff, MN. He grew up on the Schmidt family farm northwest of Fillmore. He went to country school through the 8th grade at the Old Stone Country School. He finished high school with the class of “59” in Wykoff.
Loren married Sharon Serfling on December 28, 1963. They had three children, Lisa, Robert and Craig. In 1964 they purchased their first farm, that was the start of his incredible farming career. He also worked for the US Postal service from 1979 to 2012. You could set your watch with his delivery time. After his retirement from the post office, he went back to his true passion – farming with his two sons.
Loren and Sharon moved off the farm in 1994 to Spring Valley. Loren had many hobbies and a love of history.
Loren was a very hard working and social person. No one ever walked away without a good laugh. He will be sadly missed.
Loren is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Lisa, Robert and Craig (Nicole); grandchildren, Sabrina, Noah, Chase, Thomas, Gracie, Ben, Courtney, Keaton, Kara, Ira, Karson, and Eli; his farming buddy, Matthew Woods; brothers, Allen (Betty), Harlan (Dee), and Myron; and sister, Marion.
Loren is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Wykoff Community Center. Masks are required. A small family and friends service will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church. All are welcome for lunch and fellowship at 3 p.m. at the Wykoff Community Center.
In lieu of flowers Loren’s family ask for memorials to be given to Immanuel Cemetery at Wykoff, Wykoff Historical Society or Spring Valley Historical Society.

I never got to know Loren well just know my brother Richard had high regards for him my deepest Sympathy to Sharon and family Char Stryker
I always enjoyed talking to Loren. He always had questions. I am sure he had more knowledge trapped in his head. He truly did make people laugh. I used to make him laugh by trying to purchase land from him. He will be missed by a lot of faces. Sending loving thoughts and prayers to the family and whoever shared a smile with him.
