Brandi Lee (Berg) Halsey, 57, entered into her Heavenly home on August 3, 2026 surrounded by the love of those who meant the most to her.
Brandi’s life wasn’t defined by the places she went or the titles she held, but by the people she loved and the way she made them feel. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like they belonged. Whether you knew her for decades or had only just met her, you left feeling like family.
Born on January 2, 1969, to Herbert and Patricia (Macal) Berg, Brandi built her life around the things that mattered most: faith, family, friendship, and making people feel at home.
She was the devoted mother of Cole and Blake, and there wasn’t a title she cherished more than Grandma to her beloved granddaughter, River. Her boys were the center of her world. They were her greatest adventure, her proudest accomplishment, and an endless source of joy. Loving them wasn’t simply part of her life, it was the heartbeat of it.
Through the years, Cole and Blake’s friends became part of Brandi’s family too, and she welcomed them with the same fierce encouragement, laughter, and care she gave so freely to everyone in her life.
She also shared many years of life with the father of her sons, Brian, and the friendship they maintained reflected the grace, respect, and unwavering love they shared for their family.
Those who knew Brandi best knew there was one place where everything she loved came together—Lake Mazaska. After purchasing her grandparents’ beloved cabin, she made sure it remained exactly what it had always been: a place where people felt at home. Throughout the warmer months, family and friends gathered there for weekends filled with laughter, shared meals, campfires, and conversations that lingered long after the sun had gone down. It was also home to the annual Girls Weekend tradition, where friendships were celebrated year after year. Brandi understood something many of us spend a lifetime learning: the best memories aren’t made because everything is perfect. They’re made because they’re shared with the people you love.
A proud graduate of Austin High School’s Class of 1987, Brandi dedicated her life to serving others. While she held many roles throughout her career, she found her calling with Austin Public Schools, where she became a trusted mentor, advocate, and friend to countless children. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and safe. Whether you were a student searching for encouragement, a coworker needing a listening ear, or someone she had only just met, Brandi had a way of making you believe you mattered.
In 2022, Brandi fulfilled another dream by opening The Lodge on Lake Mazaska. More than a restaurant, it became an extension of her heart. She welcomed neighbors, travelers, old friends, and first-time visitors with the same warmth that had defined her life for decades. It never took long before strangers became friends in Brandi’s presence.
Whether gathered around a campfire at the cabin, walking the halls of Austin Public Schools, sharing a meal at The Lodge, or sitting beside someone during life’s hardest moments, Brandi had an extraordinary gift for making people feel like they belonged.
That wasn’t simply what she did. It was who she was.
Brandi is survived by her sons, Cole (Marissa Quernemoen) Halsey and Blake (Annissa Zynda) Halsey; her cherished granddaughter, River Halsey; brothers, Barry (Sherri) Berg of Remer and Dan Berg of Austin; sister, Lisa (Mark) Stephan of Altura; the father of her sons, Brian Halsey; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who became family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Patricia (Macal) Berg; her brother, Todd Berg; and her grandparents.
She made people feel at home—in her family, at the lake, around her table, and in her heart. Long after the conversations have ended, the campfires have burned out, and the lake has grown still, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the people fortunate enough to have known her.

What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman – inside and out! I loved Buff and all the great times at the lake with her and all her family and friends. She will be sorely missed but her loving, generous, kind, and fun spirit will live on!
