Judith Ann Sylling was born March 25, 1942 in Spring Grove, Minnesota to James and Dagny (Petersen) Sylling. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1960, where she was a member of the Honor Roll and choir. Judy graduated from Abbott Hospital School of Nursing in 1963.
She was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” Blomgren on April 27, 1963 in Spring Grove, Minnesota. After living in the Lime Springs, Iowa area they moved to Spring Valley, Minnesota where they resided until retirement, at which time they moved to their lake home on Sauk Lake, Sauk Centre, MN.
Judy dedicated 48 years to a rewarding career in nursing, primarily in research studies until her retirement from Mayo Clinic in 2001. Retirement didn’t last long, as she returned to work for a brief period for Todd County and the nursing home while living on Sauk Lake before she completely retired.
Throughout her nursing career and retirement, Judy enjoyed years of fishing and family vacations on Lake Winnibigoshish, Leech Lake and Sauk Lake, and her many hobbies. Following the passing of her husband in 2016, she relocated to the Rochester area to be closer to her children and immediate family. After moving, Judy became an active member of Zumbro Lutheran Church and found camaraderie in many groups, including Rebecca Circle, EE (Embroidery Enthusiasts), Knit Club, Quilt Club, Abbott Hospital School of Nursing Friends (Class of 1963), taking classes at Pine Needles as well as going to breakfast and lunch with the many friends she had. She cherished game days and day trips with friends, treasured time spent with family along with her standing Friday Zoom call and was a self-described “putterer”.
