Paul Alois Piechowski, age 72, of Rochester, MN, died October 11 due to Covid-19.
He is survived by his wife Valeria, his first wife Carole, their sons Ryan (Megan), Nick (Michelle), brother Otto (Janet), nieces Nicole, Hannah, Mara, nephew Tony.
He was preceded in death by his father Anthony Piechowski, mother Helen, brother David and his wife Jane.
Raised in Browns Valley, Minnesota. Attended Crosier Seminary/ Junior College, Onamia, MN. He served in the United States Navy as a cryptographer during the Vietnam War, receiving a Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, and the National Defense Service Medal. After military service he attended college at Winona State University and holds a BA in Communications and Speech. Paul was an entrepreneur, he helped start 30 plus small businesses and owned/operated 3 of them.
Memorial Service will take place at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 3rd Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904 on November 1st 2020. Visitation from 1PM – 2PM, Service to follow immediately.
The members of Paul’s family express gratitude for the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital/ Mayo Clinic of Rochester, MN whose interactions were consistently kind and professional.

Thank you for all you did for me, for listening, for sharing your experience, and mostly, for showing me what it meant to be “a good man, trying to become better”. You will not be forgotten, and I will do my best to carry the message of Love and example all the days of my life.

My heartfelt condolences to your families at your loss. Thank you for your steadfastness and calm points of view. You touched a lot lives in your family of origin and your family of understanding. Heartfelt condolences to Paul’s family. He was the Best Man at our wedding at the Nature Center in Austin,MN. Paul knocked the Bible from the railing into the water, to which groomsman,Bill, remarked that Paul really needed to deal with his resentment towards the Church. My best memory is of him pulling a “to do list” from his billfold and going through it. About every 4-5 things he had listed “laugh.” His life was about God wanting him to be “happy, joyous and free,” and sharing experience, strength and hope.
He’s now joined that Happy Destiny meeting with so many others. Godspeed Paul.
I was stationed with Paul in Morocco and Hawaii. He would come and party/stay in our A-frame on the north shore. We had some good times together!
