Nila Jean Robertson of Plainview, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the age of 89, in West Saint Paul, MN.
Nila was born on December 2, 1934, to Alice and Harry Carpenter in North Dakota. She grew up in Longville, Minnesota, and married Hugh Curry in 1954, later divorcing.
Her professional journey was characterized by a deep commitment to caregiving. After working in various roles, she earned her LPN degree from Rochester Junior College and became a nurse at
Olmsted Medical Center. Nila also served as a private duty dialysis nurse and later found fulfillment as a nanny, a role she cherished until her retirement.
In her retirement, Nila enjoyed cross-stitching, watching the Game Show Network, and playing dominoes and card games with friends. She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Nila is survived by her seven children: Debra Curry of LeRoy, MN; Darlene (Stu) Aakre of Kingman, AZ; Liz Decker of Rochester, MN; Darryl Curry of North Dakota; Bill Curry of Rochester, MN; Paul Curry of Irving, TX; and Joan (Don) Pavelka of Plainview, MN. She leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren, along with her sisters, Jane (Dick) Stresnak of Longville, MN, and Joan (Bob) Reasoner of Le Sueur, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Harry Carpenter, and her brothers, David and Dale Carpenter and her sister, Rita Oswald.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the Plainview American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Breast
Cancer Research in her honor.
