Terry Marvin Carlson, 60, of Austin MN left this world on September 24, 2024 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN after a long battle with lupus and kidney failure.
Terry was born in Cambridge MN on June 8, 1964 and was raised on the family farm in Braham MN. He attended Braham High School, before furthering his education at St. Cloud State and getting a Master’s Degree in Education from SW State University. Terry taught industrial tech at Jackson, Hayfield, Austin, Fairmont, and finished in Austin before retiring. In addition, he enjoyed coaching wrestling and helping others. Terry impacted countless students, staff and really everyone he came in contact with due to his happy and supportive demeanor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand but also tell it to you straight, providing guidance which helped many succeed.
Terry is survived by his sons Nick, 32, Cody, 30 (wife Kelsey), as well as his grandson Theodore, 1.
Terry will be greatly missed by all and his memory will live on through all he has impacted.
A burial will be held at Royalton Memorial Cemetery in Braham MN on Saturday October 5, 2024 at 1pm. In addition, a celebration of life will be held at the Eagles in Austin MN Saturday October 26, 2024 from 1pm-4pm. Thank you all for your love and support.

I’m am very saddened by Terry’s passing. I’m glad I had the chance to visit him about three weeks ago. He was a great teaching partner and a wonderful friend. I know this is a very difficult time for the family, but please accept my most sincere condolences. The wiseman

So sorry to hear about the loss of Terry. My wife and I are saying prayers for the family.
Looking back, one of my best days ever was when I met Terry in the fall of 1982 at St. Cloud State. Since then, we have had a lifelong friendship that I will treasure the rest of my life. I already miss the frequent conversations we had on a variety of topics. He truly was gifted a unique sense of humor (through his directness and diplomacy). My thoughts are with Carlson family, and please know the world was a better place because of Terry. R.I.P. my friend!

I couldn’t be more sad to hear of this news about Terry. I worked with Terry for many years as a teacher in Austin Public Schools as he was. We spent many years together in the summer shingling houses to make a little extra for our families and Terry was one of the hardest workers I have ever spent time on the job with. We worked hard together but Terry was famous for having a cold one when a good job was done. Our families got to know each other through spending so much time together in the summer as well. Terry was always remodeling or taking on the next project to make things better for his family. He talked fondly of his boys accomplishments long after our shingling days were done and we had taken different jobs but we had regular conversations on the phone and kept up with each others lives. He was as good of a friend as you could ask for and you could always run an idea or project by Terry for his thoughts. You will be sorely missed to the one and only Rancid Swede!
Sorry for your families loss. Terry was a wrestling coach and teach of mine in Hayfield. I had a lot of respect for him. He was a great teacher and coach.
