Margaret Holway Hill Scott MacLean, affectionately known as Peggy, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023 at the age of 98 in Rochester, Minnesota. Peggy was born on February 14, 1925, in Portland, Maine to Fred and Katharine Hill. She graduated from Columbia University Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1948.
Peggy devoted her life to her family after her marriage to Richard Scott in 1949. She was a skilled cook and seamstress, often preparing delicious home-cooked meals and handmade clothing for her loved ones. Peggy cherished her family and friends, and maintained lifelong relationships with her childhood friends. She had a passion for classical music, a sweet tooth for chocolate, and a special love for cats. Her last cat, Katie, brought her much comfort in her final years.
Peggy was an accomplished genealogist and spent many years researching her family’s history. She was also an active member of the Congregational Church of Rochester, Minnesota, and later the Congregational Church of Sun City, Arizona, where she sang in the choir. Peggy married Grant MacLean in 2002 after the passing of her first husband, Richard Scott, in 1991.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Bill) Radio and Susan (Ron) Hendee; son, John (Melissa) Scott; grandchildren, Andy (Tanya Radio), Tom Radio, Scott (Sheri) Radio, Lindsey (Jon) Bittner, Adam (Taylor) Scott, Ryan (Addie) Petersen, Seth Petersen; and 16 great-grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Schultz; and her husbands, Richard Scott and Grant MacLean.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Rochester Cremation Services in Rochester, Minnesota. Visitation with family will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
