Richard “Dick” Warneke

Richard Dale Warneke

August 20, 1941 – June 4, 2023

Richard Warneke passed away peacefully and quickly at the age of 81 on June 4, 2023, in Faribault, Minnesota. He was in the company of his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and fellow musicians. He was known to most as “Dick Warneke”, but his family called him “Richie”.

He was born in Tilden, Nebraska and moved to Minnesota with his family in the fall of 1956. He graduated from West Concord High School. After living in Minnesota for many years, he and his family relocated to Orville, California, where he worked for Butte County until retirement. He then moved to San Diego and enjoyed golf and working on projects around the home. After the passing of his wife, Linda “Burt” Warneke, he relocated once more to Faribault, Minnesota, closer to children Cherie and Rob.

Dick was a celebrated musician in southern Minnesota and the tri-state area, along with his band mates who included his wife, Burt. His band, “Country Road”, played country-rock in the late 70’s and 80’s. This included playing roughly 10 consecutive years at the annual Pine Island Cheese Festival Street Dance.

At the time, his goal was to be the best “dance-band” in the area, and many agree that goal was well achieved. He enjoyed meeting up with other musicians for jam sessions or other social events. In his later years, he enjoyed reminiscing of those days, while grinning from ear to ear!

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda “Burt” Warneke; parents: Herman and Charlotte Warneke and siblings:  LaVerne (Sye) Munson, Leona “Onie” (Dave) Edwards, LeRoy (Millie) Warneke, Arlie (Joyce) Warneke.

He is survived by his children: Cherie, Robby and Angela; grandchildren: Isaac, Jacob, Stephen, Ben, Eliza, Will, and Sam; great-grandchildren: Marcus, Lauren, Avery, Chase and Cora and siblings: JoAnn Dorrough, Ron (Sharon) Warneke, Duane “Chub” (Shirley) Warneke.

Dick and Burt will be laid to rest at the place of his birth, Tilden, Nebraska.
